What is Jazz Funk?

Jazz funk is a hybrid of Hip Hop and Jazz dance. Jazz Funk borrows a lot of movement from other dance styles and is commonly seen in the commercial dance space.Jazz Funk is known to be fast paced with quick intricate movements. This is performance driven, high energy, and fun!

SIMRAN SACHAR

HIP HOP + CONTEMPORARY

Simran Sachar is a choreographer, dancer, teacher, writer, and actor who currently dedicates time to their artistic practice in Vancouver, Canada on the unceded, ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.

A captivating anomaly in contemporary, commercial, and street dance, her work, rooted in her lineage and lived experiences, bends towards the grotesque and cinematics. She works across TV/film, theatre, XR, and public art. As of this year, Sachar is working with W*ackers across Vancouver and Montreal to create her first ensemble work titled Twister. Recent highlights include co-choreographing Today is the evening to strike lightning (Indian Summer Festival, 2025), co-directing These hands are still at work (Surrey Art Gallery), premiering her XR film The Edge of The Underworld (2024), and her live work ACT TWENTY FIVE. Her films BETA बेटा and LUNACY have screened nationally, with LUNACY earning an Audience Choice Award. Sachar has won and placed high at numerous (open/all styles and W*acking) street dance battles across Canada and the United States.

Sachar’s work has been generously supported by Canada Council for the Arts, British Columbia Arts Council, Creative Spark Vancouver, FORM Film Festival, Surrey Art Gallery, Dance West Network, Dance Victoria, Arts Revelstoke, The Dance Centre, Odd Meridian Arts, New Performance Works Society, Indian Summer Festival, PuSH International, Dancing On The Edge, Co.Erasga, CanAsian Dance, Festival Accès Asie, and more.

Sachar has worked on various film & television projects: Disney Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, Elle, Riverdale, Sidelined 2: The QB & Me, Scrubs, A Nice Indian Boy, and more.

DARIAN MARK

LYRICAL + JAZZ + JAZZ FUNK

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Darian Mark (HE/HIM) is a dancer, aerialist, choreographer, teacher and adjudicator based out of London, England. Having trained extensively in a variety of dance styles, as well as in the circus arts, Darian’s work has taken him across the world, on stages, on screens and on multiple media platforms.

On screen, Darian is best known for his work in Disney’s Zombies 2 as Brad and Temple Street’s The Next Step, as Ben, where he played the first queer couple on the program. He is grateful to have worked with the incomparable Kenny Ortega, Mandy Moore, Todd Holland, Michael Lembeck, Heather Laura Gray, Jennifer Weber, Jeff Mortensen, Jillian Meyers along this journey. As a live performer, Darian has had the opportunity to travel across the world from Kuwait, to China, to across North America and at sea, working with Cirque Eloize, Royal Caribbean, RWS Global, Holland America Line, Moment Factory, Corporeal Imago and Legend River Entertainment. This brought him in collaboration with Daniel Ezralow, Genevieve Dorian Coupal, Susan Gaudreau, Caroline Torti, Edesia Moreno Barata, Emma Portner, Benjamin Schwimmer, Gabrielle Martin & Jeremiah Hughes.

Darian is also a proud Stage Associate Member with CDTA (Canadian Dance Teachers Association) and has completed all of the Acrobatic Arts modules. In addition, he holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), is a Reiki Level II Practitioner, and a 200HR RYT. Darian is a highly sought after adjudicator with competitions including VIEW Dance Challenge, Terpsicore, SUMMIT Dance Challenge and many more. With vast performing experience and a wonderful sense of curiosity and exploration, Darian is excited to continue sharing on projects that allow him to showcase his full mind, body and spirit.
